Step Back in Time and Explore the Past
Fort Edmonton Park is a living history museum that brings Edmonton's past to life. During the Day Camps Season, our campers get the opportunity to step back in time and experience Canada's history in an engaging and immersive way. Campers enjoy a ride on the streetcar and historic steam train as they travel through time and begin exploring the Park's historical attractions. Starting with the Indigenous Peoples Experience and learning about the rich cultures and traditions of the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities. Campers can take on the roles of early voyageurs and traders in the 1846 Fort during the Fur Trade and early days of the Hudson's Bay Company. They will immerse themselves in the era of 1885, becoming pioneers and experiencing firsthand how settlers built their homesteads and a sense of community.
Campers can march down 1905 Street to join the Suffragette Movement and advocate for Women's rights. They'll also catch a glimpse of the glitz and glamour of the roaring twenties on 1920s Street, with the Capitol Theatre offering a taste of old Hollywood charm. End the day by visiting the Midway, where they can enjoy carnival rides and games. These time-traveling experiences are designed to be both educational and entertaining, providing kids with a lasting tangible understanding of history.

A Day in the Life of a Camper at Fort Edmonton Park's Summer Day Camps: A Camp Leader's Perspective
As a Day Camp leader at Fort Edmonton Park, I have the privilege of guiding kids through a day full of fun, learning, and exciting historical adventures. It's rewarding to grow and learn alongside the campers, as each day brings new experiences. Every day camp is unique, shaped by the kids and their leaders. The campers are enthusiastic, engaged, and eager to experience history like never before.
From morning to afternoon, there's a constant buzz of curiosity and energy as we delve deep into Edmonton's past. It's magical to hear the steam train while walking through the different streets or to listen to the music playing at the Capitol Theatre. The sounds of children screaming with excitement from the Ferris wheel at the Midway enhance the lively atmosphere.
Each Day Camp features a unique and authentic theme. For example, if you sign your camper up for "Our Land, Our Stories," this camp focuses on teachings and building deeper connections through storytelling, nature walks, exploration, hands-on activities, crafts such as beadwork, and games like scavenger hunts. Campers will also have the entire park to explore, creating endless and timeless immersive experiences.
