Frequently Asked Questions

Volunteers of any age can get involved at Fort Edmonton Park and we have volunteers from a few months old, to 90 years of age! Specifically, we believe that getting kids involved in volunteering early is a great way to support their community spirit and skill development.

To ensure the safety and success of our young volunteers, we require that children under 13 years of age volunteer with a parent or guardian over the age of 18. Children may volunteer with an adult other than their parent if written consent is provided. A maximum of three children under 13 may volunteer with one adult.

Our Youth Leadership (Junior Volunteer) positions are designed to engage youth from 13-17 years who are paired with staff mentors to guide their learning. Some positions are designed for volunteers 16+ or 18+, see specific positions for more information.

Fort Edmonton Park seeks to be an inclusive place for anyone to volunteer; those with diverse cultural connections and abilities are encouraged to get involved. If you aren’t sure about what position could best meet your volunteer needs or goals, please email volunteer@fortedmontonpark.ca with your interest.

We’re so excited that you want to get involved! We need to know about you, so create a volunteer profile here.

To make sure that your volunteer experience is supported and fun, we only post the opportunities that we want to fill soon. Many of our positions are seasonal, so if the position you want isn’t available, please select it as an “interest” in your volunteer profile.

Please note that some roles require a short meeting, a mini-interview or a Police Information Check may be required (completed onsite and paid for by FEP) and all roles will have varied minimum training required.

There is something for everyone at Fort Edmonton Park, whether you enjoy visiting with the public or working behind the scenes. See our list of current opportunities here.

If you don’t know much about history, no worries. Some positions are focused on talking to guests while wearing a historic costume, but others involve greeting and helping to direct guests as they enjoy the park. We also have positions that are more seasonal, such as safeguarding a fire at a special event or tending to one of the many historic gardens across our beautiful park.

Please be aware that each volunteer position has different qualifications and some require a greater, more consistent minimum time commitment. Additionally, some of the popular positions, such as Junior Volunteers and Costumed Historical Volunteers include an interview.

If you have a skill, or idea for a position that isn’t posted, please email volunteer@fortedmontonpark.ca with your interest.

Yes! We have opportunities that are specifically set aside for groups, whether it be for family bonding, corporate team building, or a way for you and your friends to do some good in the community. Please click the Group Inquiry button to complete the Google Form.

Please note that opportunities are limited, often involve outdoor activities, and are scheduled based on the completed submissions received in sequential order.

Fort Edmonton Park’s street cars are proudly run by our partners, the Edmonton Radial Rail Society. To learn more and get involved, visit: http://www.edmonton-radial-railway.ab.ca/

We know that time is valuable, so we have roles that require a minimum commitment of 20 hours which includes orientation and training. Some roles require a greater and more consistent time commitment, but each role gives you access to our beautiful park, volunteer t-shirts, learning opportunities, and more perks. Appreciation of volunteers is built into our values and is part of our daily efforts.

The Edmonton Radial Railway Society (ERRS) is proud to be an important part of Fort Edmonton Park. Founded in 1980, the volunteer members of the ERRS worked hard to create an authentic 1KM long streetcar system operating on 1905 and 1920 streets. A replica of Edmonton’s original south side streetcar barn houses a number of operational streetcars, as well as the society’s workshop.

For more information on the ERRS, visit their site at www.edmonton-radial-railway.ab.ca.
